OC Fire Authority Educates Future Firefighters At Girls Empowerment Camp

This past Saturday, the Orange County Fire Authority had its third annual Girls Empowerment Camp to help inspire the next generation of women firefighters.

The camp was for girls ages 14-18 and they were able to get some real hands-on experience as firefighters with the help of professional firefighters. The camp ended up having 60 girls who trained for two days and learned how to use ladders, axes and chainsaws.

Some of the girls attended have fathers who are firefighters so they were excited to learn about what their dads do at work and some are eager to go into the field when they are older.

"I'm still really inspired by his work to just go into this field," said Isabele Neira, whose dad is a firefighter.
"I feel like there are a lot of things I am interested in, but it is definitely an option to me," said Izzy McCann, another camper. "I've always [had it] in the back of my head."
